A rich gas deposit was discovered during drillings near the village of Deventsi , near the town of Cherven Bryag in northern Bulgaria. The exploitation of the natural gas field close to the village of Deventsi, Northern Bulgaria, will kick off by the middle of the year, Pleven District Governor Tsvetko Tsvetkov told. Currently, the newly found field, which will yield gas distillate and natural gas, is being assessed. A rough estimate of the amounts of natural gas in it will be available within a month, Tsvetkov said. Direct Petroleum, the company exploiting the field, expects it will be the best gas field in Bulgaria.

A significant deposit of high-quality natural gas has been discovered at the village of Deventsi close to the city of Pleven in central north Bulgaria. The US oil company Direct Petroleum Exploration Inc. (DPE) have discovered a gas deposit under the Bulgarian town of Varshets, the Russian Prime-Tass agency broke the news. Tests have shown the presence of promising quantities of gas and natural gas condensate. Apart from Bulgaria, DPE have subsidiaries in Morocco and Russia. More than a year ago they started drilling for gas near the Pleven District village of Deventsi after discovering a large deposit.
