Nearly 500 grain producers from the northern Bulgarian town of Pleven blocked twice the main Pleven-Sofia road demanding that direct payments of government subsidies start immediately. The farmers said the protests will grow longer by an hour every next day until their demands have been met. The protestors are seeking BGN 378 million in state aid for direct payments and extra subsidies per unit of arable land.
