Belene Nuclear Power Plant Construction Starts in March 2009

"The construction of NPP Belene will start in March next year," Russia`s Deputy PM Sergey Sobyanin said after the 12th session of the Intergovernmental Bulgarian-Russian Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.
"The project is developing as scheduled and the funds have been provided already. Russia will allot 3.8 billion euro from its budget for the construction of the nuclear power plant in the period 2008-2010," Bulgaria`s Minister of Economy and Energy Petar Dimitrov said.
"By the end of the year Bulgaria will execute advance payment for the plant`s equipment, which will be installed and constructed over the next two or three years.
An agreement for the conducting of a preliminary research on the South Stream project will be signed between Bulgargaz and Gazprom by the end of the month.
The companies will start talks on the increase in the supplies of Russian natural gas to Bulgaria. Bulgaria and Russia confirmed their commitments as regards the Bourgas-Alexandroupolis pipeline project. There is no change in the schedule a delay with two or three months is insignificant," Minister Dimitrov said.
