These days, public consultation on assessment of environmental impact of the extraction of basalt near the village of Varbovka (Pavlikeni municipality) is at hand. There are three potential investors in development of basalt deposit - Basalt Bulgaria, which will yield the raw material in several villages in the region, Path-engineering (Ruse) and Petrurgia.

Hopes are that production will insure about 50 new jobs.

The basalt deposit near Varbovka is one of the biggest ones in the country. Active development of the raw material in the deposit is possible for a period of 25 years.
