High-speed road between Sunny beach and Burgas

"The stretch between the city of Burgas and the Sunny Beach seaside resort nearby will be constructed as a four-lane high-speed road," said Lazar Lazarov, Managing Board Chairman of the Road Infrastructure Agency. According to him, a tender procedure for the selection of a contractor will be launched soon and, by the beginning of the tourist season, the 35-km stretch may be put into operation.
Currently, the stretch is a two-lane road along which more than 30,000 vehicles a day pass during the summer season and about 20,000 - during the rest of the year. "Traffic analyses show that part of the Hemus highway which is still under construction can be built as a high-speed road," added Lazarov.
About BGN 250 mln have been remitted to the contractors of the Trakia highway. This is 52% of the total cost of the route, specified the press centre of the Road Infrastructure Agency. The money has been allocated under Operational Programme Transport. The road is expected to be commissioned by the beginning of the tourist season this year.
Work continued in winter on Lot 1 and Lot 2 of the Maritsa highway, Lot 1 of the Struma motorway, the stretch of the Hemus highway between the Sofia Ring Road and the road junction Yana and the road Kardjali - Podkova.
