The Bulgarian anti-mafia units detained Friday the businessman from the city of Sliven Ivan Terziev with 66 kg of drugs during a special operation. This was announced Saturday at a press conference by the Sliven police and Stanimir Florov, the head of the Drugs Section at the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime.

Ivan Terziev, dubbed Belenski, was arrested at the town of Elena, located on the northern side of the Balkan Mountain. The police found 6 kg of heroin in his BMW. Terziev put up resistance to the policemen and tried to escape in the mountain. Later, 60 more kilograms of drugs - 30 kg heroin and 30 kg amphetamine - were found in Terziev`s house in the village of Byala, Sliven District.

"The heroin is from Turkey and in wholesale prices it is worth about EUR 800 000", Stanimir Florov said adding that the amphetamine were destined for the Middle East, most likely for Saudi Arabia, and its likely place of origin was Serbia. It is worth some BGN 1,8 M.

The Sliven policemen said that was the largest quantity of drugs ever captured in their region. In Terziev`s house they also found fake 100-dollar banknotes, and an illegally owned AK 47 "Kalashnikov" machine gun with 30 cartridges.

Two law suits will be filed against Terziev - one in the city of Sliven, and another one in the city of Veliko Turnovo. His connections with known drug traffickers are going to be a matter of investigation.

The arrested has a legal business and lots of real estate property. He is known in Sliven for growing mushrooms, for owning a dairy, a chain of stores, and a nuts producing firm, which currently does not function.  He owns six cars including two S-Class Mercedes, a Jaguar, and a jeep.
