Surrounded by forest flora and blessed with crystal clean air, the village of Mineralni Bani (ie Mineral Water Baths) has been famed as a balneological centre since the days of the Roman Empire. Even in those days, people were attracted by the thermal baths by their healing properties, as the ruins of Roman thermal baths and the ancient Roman fortress Kaleto show. The mineral water is hyper-thermal (57 oC) and has a unique chemical composition.
The mineral baths are a good launchpoint for a trip to Mechkovets, a nature reserve with the peak Aida, 860 m above sea-level.
For nature-lovers, there is the reserve Boraka - a natural habitat of the European black pine, snowflakes and peonies and home to the natural phenomena Orlova Skala (Eagle`s Rock), Pobitiya Kamak (the Upright Stone) and Ogledalnata Skala (Mirror Rock).
Tourists are also attracted by the Thracian wine-stones Sharapani and the phenomenon known as the Footstep of the Mother of God.
