Burgas mine Cherno More will be turned into a heating plant, said its executive director Angel Angelov. The idea is the old and abandoned pits to be reconstructed in heat generators. The heat will be used primarily for domestic and administrative buildings.
Such projects have been already implemented in Europe very successfully. According to Angelov the abandoned underground galleries have great potential to produce thermal energy, which is 4-5 times cheaper than standard heating. In summer the system can be used for cooling.
