A bi-sexual prisoner from the jail in Sliven has won a case against a prosecutor who had discriminated her sexually, DeltaNews reports Thursday.

She had been refused the right to be freed before the end of her sentence even though she had met all the criteria. The prosecutor who had the final word wrote that he refuses to let her go from the prisoner because the young woman had a "clear and stable homosexual orientation" that resulted in problematic "way of life" and "emotional state, thinking and behaviour".

The woman was serving a four year sentence in the Sliven women`s prison, and just like all the other prisoners requested to be freed after the second year of her sentence in order to look after her child, her attorney, Daniela Fartunova, told DeltaNews.

The connection between the prisoner and the Helsinki Committee, that helped her during the trial, took place within the prison where representatives from the organization came to see her, as detainees do not have Internet access and their letters are being read buy the authorities.

Initially the request was for 1,000 leva EUR500, but the cour decided that the prisoner had suffered material damage for only 300 leva (EUR150). Initially the first instance didn`t find the prosecutor`s motives to be discriminating, but later the Sofia City Court admitted they are unacceptable.
