The Strupeshki (Tarzhishki) Monastery St. Prophet Ilia is located some 4.5 km western direction from village of Strupets (Vratsa district) at distance around 30km to town of Vratsa and 10km to town of Roman. It is situated in the northern part of the Gola Glava (Bald Head) hill in the Western Fore-Balkan, on the right bank of the Iskar river (300m away from the river).
There is no data about the year of construction of the old monastery but after Bulgaria was conquered by the Ottomans it was destroyed. In these times the monastery has nested Bulgarian heroes as Vasil Levski and Nikola Obretenov. The temple was burned down three times, as in 1972 the bigger part of it was devoured.
Today the monastery is repaired and constantly active. The small one-apse basilica is located in the wide yard and is made of stone with dimensions of 4.95х7.39m. In 1991 next to the church was constructed a new temple. Despite the fresh air and the recently built church not a single monk has lived in it for a long time.
