The Ranuli Fortress stands on a peak Vulchanovo Kale on the right bank of Ropotamo River, near village of Bliznak (Malko Tarnovo municipality). It is situated some 18 km southern from the town of Sozopol.

The remains of the fortified wall surround a vast area – about 30,000 square meters. The fortified walls - quite well preserved, and made of huge perfectly whittled down stones, has embraced one of the biggest fortified towns in Bulgaria.

Researchers believe that it was initially built in the ages by the Crete- Mycenae civilization – 16th-14th century BC. According to the archeologists life has originated here thousand years before but the large-scaled construction has destroyed the artifacts.

Regular archeologist researches have not been held here as the fortress is situated in the Ropotamo preserved area. In 2003 the desired sanctuary of Ranuli was finally found. The archeologists discovered almost entire protected sanctuary some 2-3 km away from the fortress’s walls.
