A team of Bulgarian archeologists discovered a splendid mansion of a Thracian King, who lived at the end of 2nd and the beginning of the 3rd century BC. He reigned over the interior of the Strandzha-Sakar region, historians say.
Daniela Agre from the Institute of Archaeology cum museum with the Bulgarian Academy of Science, who led the excavations, says the ruins are more than 23 centuries old. The manor was discovered in the locality of Golata Niva (Sinemorest area) just above the mouth of the Veleka River, where two years ago Agre discovered a unique gold treasure. The mansion had a total floorage of 200 sqm. Its fortified wall had been built of stones, cemented with mud. The foundation of the mansions turret was probably used as a granary, archeologists say.
"The mansion is one of the most interesting archaeological sites at the seaside," Daniela Agre said.
