German retailer Kaufland said it will invest over 50 mln euro to expand its storage facility in the village of Stryama, Southern Bulgaria. The warehouse in Stryama is the stocking hub for all of the Kaufland stores in Bulgaria.
The announcement was made at the opening of the new Kaufland outlet in Pazardjik, the company`s 12th in the country. The new outlet, costing 10 mln euro, has a built area of 5,000 sq m and 200 parking spaces.
The company is currently building hypermarkets in Burgas, Stara Zagora and Kyustendil.
"Kaufland`s expansion in Bulgaria will continue and the company will have hypermarkets in all major cities. A total of 19 outlets were opened in the past two years and I think we are the only company in the country with as many launches of retail outlets larger than 5,000 sq m each," said Kaufland Bulgaria sales director Hristo Petrov.
Austrian retailer Billa already operates in Pazardjik. Germany`s Lidl will also soon open an outlet in the city.
