The CEO of the seaside resort Sunny Beach predicted that hotel managers would be at risk if only 50% of the available accommodations are booked. There are indications that the upcoming tourist season will be slow, Stratieva reported.

The global downturn is not the only reason. The Turkish and Greek governments provided assistance to their travel sectors, allowing these destinations to reduce costs dramatically and become more competitive. It emerged that Bulgaria could profit from the crisis at the ITB in Berlin last week. It would help if the government improved sector marketing on a worldwide scale.

The ongoing reconstruction of the road between Ravda and Sunny Beach is another challenge facing the season. So far no viable predictions regarding the completion term have been made.

Stratieva concluded that the visa policy of the country should be reviewed in terms of target groups like tourists from Russia, Germany and the UK. Free visas would stimulate the tourist flow from these countries.
