Srebarna Reserve is located near the village of Srebarna , 18 km west from the town of Silistra and 2 km from Danube river. It includes the Srebarna Lake and its surroundings. The lake is the main stop of the Via Pontica – the most important migratory track of the birds between North Europe and Central Africa. The whole reserve is 600 ha large. The active fishing season begins in Bulgaria on June 6, Darik Radio reported. Season opening will be marked in the region of Sreburna lake. Fishing will be permitted in a specially designated area there. Fishermen will have the option to catch up to three kg and must have a valid fishing ticket. Sreburna’s guards will be monitoring the catching process and whether fishermen pollute the area. The annual price of a fishing ticket is 25 leva.

The history and natural science museums in the town of Silistra will welcome visitors during the holidays, Darik Radio reported. Sreburna museum will function from 8 am to 6 pm. Tourists will have the chance to use the museum’s equipment to observe pelicans. The ethnographic and archaeological sections of the Regional History Museum will be functioning on may 2, 4 and 5 from 9 am to 5 pm. In this manner, town visitors and residents will be able to explore landmarks during the long holiday.

Srebarna Nature Reserve was announced for protected area according to the Law for Biological Diversity, after the Environmental Ministry published on Wednesday, February 6 about 6 zones that goes under NATURA 2000 ecology network. The other five protected areas are: `Island next to Gorni Tsibar`, `Tsibar`s marsh`, Gorni Dubnik - Telish`, `Chairya` (near Dobrich city), `Breeding pool - Orsoya`.

The lake of Srebarna is situated by the Danube river, 18 km west of the village of Vetren , North-eastern Bulgaria near the Silistra . Its uniqueness is due to the fact that it is a main "station" along what is known as Via Pontica, the most important migration route of the birds of passage, which starts from Northern Europe and reaches Central Africa.
