French airline Air France will fly as of March 30 twice a day from Sofia
to Paris and back. The carrier will increase seats by 50 percent, said country manager for Bulgaria Alexis Corbasson.
The company will replace the Airbus 320 planes that have so far serviced the destination with the smaller Airbus 318. Air France will target to attract more business travelers as part of a strategy to overcome the financial crisis. Last year business trips from Bulgaria to France doubled to 14,000, said French ambassador to Bulgaria Etienne de Poncins.
Numbers have decreased in the early months of 2008 but the outlook remains optimistic, he added. Air France sold 20,000 Sofia
-Paris tickets through the end of February, which it says is a 12% increase from the previous year. Air France/KLM holds 3.4% of the Bulgarian aviation market at the moment.
