Construction works worth 300 mln euro will get underway in early `08 the absorption of EU funding provided under the environment operative program. The resource is earmarked for the construction of wastewater treatment plants in Vratsa, Gabrovo, Sliven, Ahtopol, Hisar, Svoge and Blagoevgrad and for new regional landfills in Kocherinovo, Burgas, Dobrich, Pleven, Provadia and Ruse. Some 70% of the 1.8 bln euro budget of the program will be invested in the water sector. Coastal municipalities will get priority treatment in the allocation of funds for wastewater facilities. A total of 74 wastewater treatment plants should be built by `10 with locations in all population centers with up to 10,000 residents. The allocation for 30 new regional landfills is 367 mln euro.
