Urdini Lakes in Rila mountain

The Urdini Lakes are a lake group in the Rila Mountain. They are not such a well developed site as the Seven Rila Lakes because they are located at a hard accessible area of the Rila Mountain.
Urdini lakes are located in the Western side of the Urdini Circus. Some of them are called – The Dry Lake, The Fish Lake, The Botanical Lake, The Plate etc. The Urdini River starts from the Urdini Lakes area and then it flows into Cherni Iskar River.
The lakes have a considerably small area of 1 to 2.5 hectares. The smallest one is the Fish Lake, which is also known as the Damgsko Lake because of its nearness to the Damga peak (it is just 500 m. southeastwards from the peak). The lowest located lake is the Plate Lake, which is also the biggest, and the deepest. It is at 2278 m. altitude, has a lake surface of 2.5 hectares and has approximately 89 500 m3 water.
The boards of the different Urdini Lakes vary. The Fish Lake is located on 2375 m. altitude, has a round shape and is about 5 m. deep. The deepest one is the Plate Lake (7.6 m) and it is located eastwards of the Fish Lake. The water is flowing out of it as a pretty waterfall before it reaches the Urdini River.
In 1985 the Urdini Lakes are proclaimed as a national natural treasure of international scale. The lakes are full of trout which make them very attractive for fishermen.
