Article by: Dnevnik.bg

Pirdop-based Aurubis Bulgaria will inject around BGN 3.6 million to install a 10 MW capacity at its copper smelter that will produce electricity from residual heat, said Nicolas Treand, chief executive of the local division of Germany’s Aurubis, the biggest copper producer in Europe.

Treand said that heat during the production process is released not through fuel burning but through chemical processes. It will be used to drive steam turbines that will generate green power to use onsite and meet 25% of the electricity needs.

The project is expected to deliver annual savings in the range of EUR 3 million and 5 million. It should be completed within a year.
