Bulgaria`s National Statistical Institute announced Wednesday that the apartment prices in the country had grown 5,9% in the second quarter of 2008. The average price of one square meter of residential property in Bulgaria was BGN 1299,95 in January-March 2008 but in April-June 2008 it was already BGN 1376,29. Dalkia, the French energy services company, is interested in acquiring the Sofia district heating utility and is not fazed by the considerable red ink it will inherit in case of a deal, said Jean-Michel Mazalerat, vice president central and Eastern Europe. News: Emergency Hotline Starts Operating in Bulgaria

The 112 emergency hotline will be launched in Bulgaria at long last. As of July 3, the line will receive emergency calls from the citizens in 10 districts. At the same time two call centers will start functioning in the capital and in Russe, which will cover Greater Sofia, Pernik, Kyustendil, Blagoevgrad, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Silistra and Razgrad. Till the end of the year the free line should be available for the rest of the towns in Bulgaria, Minister of State Policy for Disasters and Accidents informed yesterday. Meanwhile in the towns of Shumen and Sliven a temporary information center already operates. It receives calls about emergency situations and dispatches them to Civil Protection agency. To make a call people have to dial the respective area code and then 112.

Accidents: Young Man Drowns in Artificial Lake in Bulgaria

A 20-year-old man drowned in Iskar artificial lake in Bulgaria on Sunday afternoon. The accident occurred while a group of youngsters were swimming in the lake. After a short time all but one managed to reach the shore. The group signaled Civil Defense services over the disappearance of their friend. Few hours later the rescue teams pulled the dead body out of the water. The reasons for the man`s death have not been discovered yet.
