Sofia is The Best City to Live In for 2009

For first time Sofia wins in the poll "Best city to live in", organized by Darik Radio, DarikNews.bg and the Bulgarian daily "24 Chasa". In the last two editions the big winner was city of Varna.

In the ranking of 44 cities and towns in Bulgaria, each one was evaluated using 32 criteria. The capital Sofia won the first place with 234 points, Varna came in a close second with 233 points and Burgas was third with 219 points.

Sofia received the maximum number of points in the areas of: investment in infrastructure projects, shop hours, number of restaurants with varying cuisine, nice places to drink coffee in the center, the number of non-stop pharmacies, the availability of equipment for the treatment of heart attacks, airports, number of universities and high schools.

At the bottom of the ranking are Yambol and Dupnitsa (140 points), Gotse Delchev (133 points) and the last is Gorna Oryahovitsa (130 points).

This year special prizes were given to: Burgas - "Business city", Gabrovo - "Green City", Ruse - "Beautiful City" and Kavarna - "Party City".
