Sofia Meeting of Regional Commission of World Organization for Animal Health

Agriculture and Food Minister Miroslav Naydenov greeted the participants in a meeting of the Regional Commission for Europe of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), which was held in Sofia on Wednesday, the Agriculture and Food Ministry said in a press release.

Among the main issues discussed at the meeting was the structure of veterinary services in Europe. Bulgaria has a great chance of becoming a good model in this respect by preserving fine traditions and established successful practices, Naydenov said.

He welcomed the idea of Bulgaria joining an initiative called "One World, One Health", presented by Gaston Funes of the OIE head office in Paris.

Nikolai Belev, President of the OIE Regional Office for Southeastern Europe, presented the current and future policy of the organization as regards the structuring of national veterinary services in the region. Expertise from Lithuania, Italy and Turkey was shared at the meeting.
