Top Bulgaria Football Clubs React Furiously to Match Postponements

Bulgaria`s top football clubs are up in arms after the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) decided to postpone the re-start of the domestic championship by a week due to the freezing weather conditions.

"The resumption of the season, after the traditional winter break, has been postponed by one week," BFU spokesman Borislav Konstantinov stated.

The decision came after consultation with all 24 clubs that were to host games next weekend. Only three of the host teams said their grounds would be ready for matches following heavy snowfall over the past week, Konstantinov explained.

Some of the top Bulgarian clubs reacted furiously to the announcement, "I wonder how we`re going to stimulate clubs to modernise their stadiums since we`re still reckoning with those who don`t observe the rules," said Levski Sofia`s chief executive Konstantin Bazhdekov.

"The BFU confused things again," added CSKA Sofia`s chief executive Alexandar Todorov. "It`s a complete chaos."

Some Bulgarian clubs are still facing considerable infrastructure difficulties and are struggling to meet conditions set by football`s European governing body UEFA.

The matches due to be played between February 27 and March 2, have now been rescheduled for later in the season.

Levski Sofia currently top the championship table with 33 points from 15 matches, followed by bitter city rivals CSKA with 32 points.
