Borissov unveiled Bulgarian poetry wall in Sofia

Mayor of Sofia Boiko Borissov and Willem van Ee, ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bulgaria, officially unveiled the Bulgarian contribution to the Wall-to-Wall project on April 23 2008. The wall-wall project was initiated by the Netherlands embassy during the Dutch EU presidency in the second half of 2004.

Embassies of EU member states and candidate member states that take part in the project, adopt a wall in the centre of Sofia and decorate it with a poem in their native language. The project`s aim is to promote diversity of European languages and literature.

Besides the native language, poems are translated into English and Bulgaria. Countries that have contributed to the project include Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Luxembour, Poland, Portugal, Sweden and the UK.

The Bulgarian wall was decorated with a poem by Hristo Botev and reads "He who falls while fighting to be free, can never die".

The wall can be found next to the entrance of the Secondary School of Construction, Architecture and Geodesy “Hristo Botev” in Sofia`s Lozenetz borough.
