Just under the Kurilovo peak, at the foot of Koniavska Mountain, and only at a 2 km distance southwards of Jablyano village ( Pernik district ) is settled the Jablyano monastery St. John the Baptist. The 18 edition of the International Mummers` Festival "Surva 2009" took place in Pernik during the weekend. Completely different from both the official Byzantine style and the other official Turnovo School, are the architecture and painting of the Zemen Monastery , founded during the 14th century. It is located above the Strouma River, 76 km south-east of Sofia .
