The financial crisis has made property investors turn away from the mountain resort of Panichishte , Darik Radio reported. A tender for the sale of plots in the region failed due to the lack of interest. This is the first land sale attempt over the past seven months. Due to the lack of interest, Sapareva Bania municipality has announced tenders for the sale of two small, instead of one larger plot. Only one plot in Sapareva Bania has been sold until present.

Two new ski tracks will be constructed in the mountain resort of Panichishte , Darik Radio reported. Sapareva Banya municipality has received a permit from the municipal council concerning the execution of the project. Municipal advisors excluded two plots from the forest terrain of the municipality. These will be used for the setting up of a reservoir for tap water and a purifying station. Sapareva Banya’s municipality also approved a project for the setting up of a water-conduit.

Despite the financial crisis, investment in the resort of Panichishte has never ceased and construction works are ongoing, radio Focus-Kyustendil reported. The construction of a vacation village will start in May. Currently, the setting up of a sports complex in the region of Suhoto lake is ongoing. In addition, two hotels are being constructed there. 108 police officers will be sent to winter resorts in Bulgaria, Commissar Tomi Iliev from General Directorate Security Police said in an interview for FOCUS News Agency. A total of 60 policemen from the regional directorates of Plovdiv, Pernik and Stara Zagora will be sent to Bansko from December 1st till March 31st.

The number of foreign tourists who visited the Bulgarian winter resorts in January and February of 2008 has gone up 23,4% compared to the same months of 2007. Bulgaria`s total revenue from tourism in these months was EUR 97,8 M, which is 19% more than in the same period of 2007. The Bulgarian company Rila Sport is going to invest BGN 140 M in the construction of a five-star ski resort close to the village of Panichishte in the Rila Mountain .
