Officials at Bulgaria`s Lesovo border check-point averted an attempt for smuggling gold, seizing jewels with a total value of BGN 80,000 on Wednesday. The precious objects have been hidden in a secret box, placed in a car, driven by a 27-year-old man. The smuggler was arrested immediately after the authorities found the jewelry. That was the second such crime attempted on Bulgarian territory in the last three days. A total of 70 kilos of gold and 15 kilos of silver were seized at a customs officials` raid on Sunday.

The smuggled shipment is at the amount of more than BGN 3 million. The gold and silver were fenced in a special secret place in a driver’s cabin of a truck with Ukrainian license plate. The truck was traveling from Turkey to Romania and declared only 970 packages of textile.
