Vulture Population in Eastern Bulgaria to Be Restored

The Sinite Kamani ("Blue Stones") Natural Park located close to the city of Sliven in Eastern Bulgaria is taking up action in order to restore the population of vultures there, the Bulgarian National Radio reported.
The number of vultures in the area has decreased dramatically over the last several years, according to local eco-activists. Only 3-4 couples and several individual birds have been spotted around the special feedboxes installed several years ago.
That is why the park administration is going to import from abroad an unspecified number of birds from the two local species - Egyptian Vulture and White-headed Vulture. Upon arriving, the birds will undergo a two-month quarantine.
The project for the resettling of vultures in Eastern Bulgaria is financed by the Animal Protection Association from Frankfurt, Germany, and by other NGOs from Austria and Spain.
