Despite a decrease in bookings registered already, hotel owners in Sunny Beach are optimistic about the upcoming summer season, Focus news agency reported. Up to 60 or 70 percent of the overall accommodation capacity is to be booked , Sunny Beach Ltd executive manager Malina Stratieva said. The maximum expected level will reach up to 75 percent. Yambol will see development in the sphere of cultural tourism in cooperation with Italy’s Catania, actualno.bg reported. The Bulgarian municipality is partner in a project on exchange of good practices targeting tourism development. The overall value of the project is 238 846 leva and includes the setting up of a database system and the creation of a web portal for the exchange of experience. To increase the awareness of residents and business representatives about cultural and nature landmarks in the region, Yambol will print marketing booklets.

French tourists have opened the summer tourism season in the coastal town of Nessebar, burgasinfo.com reported. Nearly 200 French pensioners arrived in the town via Adriana cruise ship. They took a walk in the old part of town and explored the archaeology museum. Adriana is the first cruise ship out of 45 that will visit Nessebar this year. Despite the financial crisis, no cruise bookings are to be annulled. Each booking is usually made several years in advance and will remain valid.

The first group of foreign tourists will arrive in the Strandzha village of Brodilovo on April 24, Focus news agency reported. Brodilovo is working on tourism attractions that will bring even more visitors to the region. An old mill will be reconstructed in small size and all of its functions will be demonstrated to tourists. Visitors will also learn about the rare plant species of Strandzha. The mill and the surrounding lands are to be turned into an ethno and nature museum. Work on the project will be finalized by the end of the month.

A total of 45 cruise ships will arrive in the port of Bulgaria’s Nessebar this summer season, Darik Radio reported. Adriana cruise ship is to arrive on April 9. The final cruise ship for the season will reach Bulgaria on November 9 2009. The regional border checkpoint in Bulgaria has opened a seasonal facility that will ensure better service to the arriving ships. Upon Bulgaria’s EU entry, the border checkpoint was renovated to meet all European criteria.
