Tsarevo ’s summer tourism season will be successful, mayor of the coastal town Petko Arnaoudov said. Touroperators have already brought the first groups of tourists to the resort. To offer good conditions, Tsarevo is working on infrastructure improvements. All construction bans are currently being followed. Beaches that lack a concessionaire are banned for usage by tourists. Tsarevo expects to have its entire accommodation capacity full by July.

No concessionaires have been found for 43 beaches in Bulgaria due to the high concession prices, expert.bg reported. New owners have been found for a period of five years for the beaches in the resorts of Elenite, Smokinite South and North, Zlatna Ribka, Chernomorets camp, Kozlouka and Ravda. Due to the lack of concessionaires, the beaches will not be guarded though the summer season has started. The lack of concessionaires will leave many qualified lifeguards jobless. These people are expected to seek employment abroad.

A number of coastal resorts in Bulgaria will start functioning only in mid-June, Sega daily reported. The financial crisis and the lack of sufficient number of tourists is leading to this delay in the start of the summer season, head of the Sunny Beach union of owners Elena Ivanova said. Bookings in northern Black Sea resorts register 15 to 20 percent lower levels than the bookings for the same period of 2008. The decrease could be overcome through the bookings of Romanian tourists.

Nessebar municipality will cooperate with an Italian organization in the sphere of tourism, Darik Radio reported. Nessebar municipality will be popularized as a destination having clean beaches, beautiful sea and unique cultural heritage. The official opening of summer 2009 took place on May 11 in the coastal town of Nesebar. St. Stefan church was reopened as a part of the ceremony. This is one of the oldest churches in Europe and was closed for renovation of its wall paintings. Wall paintings in St. Stefan are 400 to 500 year old. The church was renovated in its original looks.
