| Bulgartabac Holding, the Bulgarian tobacco monopoly, Wednesday said it will start the bourse privatisation of its Stara Zagora and Plovdiv cigarette factories on July 11 and 5, respectively. The government owns 78.18% stakes in both companies. Both packages will be broken up into a majority and a minority stake. | The American investments in military bases in Bulgaria will amount to a total of $120-150 million. The greatest sum of money will be poured into the military base in Novo Selo while the military airport in Bezmer is expected to become one of the six strategic US air bases out of the USA. It is expected to become a peer of the air bases Aviano (Italy), Incirlik (Turkey), Ramstein (Germany). The runway will be extended and the investments in it will exceed 30 million euro. |

| "Shortage of water will turn out to be the biggest headache in building the base in Novo Selo," locals familiar with the area maintain. For years the military range itself and the nearby villages of Mokren and Sedlarevo, have been tormented by droughts. However, The Standart learnt that a vast underground lake was recently discovered near the Novo Selo military range. The lake is about 15 km long and 5 km wide. Experts say it has enough water to supply a city with a population of 400,000. Thus now the local people`s hopes for having a proper water supply system and a water treatment plant at long last, are pinned on this lake. |

The sudden death of Bulgaria`s Health Ministry press attache Nadezhda Popova marred Minister Evgeniy Zhelev`s visit to the town of Yambol on Saturday. The director of Public Relations Directorate with the ministry passed away at the front stairs of a local hospital after being struck of a massive heart attack. Minister Zhelev was the first, who tried to help the employee but it turned out to be too late. | The total floorage of all buildings of the US military base in Novo Selo will be 5 ha says the announcement published on the website Federal Business Opportunities (www.fbo.gov). The military facility will be constructed in two year`s time. Police from the city of Stara Zagora have arrested three Bulgarians over allegations of human trafficking.The two men and a woman are accused of enticing women of low social status by promising them jobs in Spain and later forcing their victims into prostitution. Another Bulgarian controlled the women in Spain but the Spanish authorities arrested the pimp a year ago. Investigation on the case continues. Statistics show that about 10,000 Bulgarian women a year become victims of trafficking. |
