| From 2005 until now the regional administration of Smolyan had received no money at all for the cleaning of the river beds of the region of Smolyan, regional governor Dr Petar Fidanov declared for Radio FOCUS – Smolyan. He pointed out that the regional administration was responsible for all rivers and gullies outside the populated areas. After the great floods in 2005 the administration had been sending requests for financing but in vain so far, Dr Fidanov said. |

| The bed capacity of Bulgarian ski resort Pamporovo has increased from around 2,000 in 2000 to 15,000-20,000 at present. The municipalities of Smolian and Chepelare each have jurisdiction over a section of the resort and issue building permits for the respective territory. | The mountain passage of Shipka a major road link between South and North Bulgaria, is closed for traffic, the police announced. Freight vehicles are not allowed to continue on the Hemus freeway and are held near the town of Pravets until the road is cleaned. All vehicles must have snow chains in the region of Botevgrad and Smolyan. The Shipkovo-Ribaritsa road is closed. Drivers are advised to follow strictly the road regulations and to be cautious. |
