Hotelkeepers managed to ensure high occupancy rate for the forthcoming ski season . About 5% more foreign fans of winter amusements have made reservations in Bulgarian ski resorts , announced the president of Bulgarian Tourist Chamber Tsvetan Tonchev in an interview with "Focus" agency. Pamporovo hotel and restaurant owners have refrained from paying taxes worth 380 000 leva to Chepelare municipality , radio Focus- Smolyan reported. The majority of owners violate regulations and refrain from paying building and refuse taxes. Often times, owners also fail paying resort taxes. The Rhodope Mountain town of Chepelare registered an increase in the number of tourists over the past month, radio Focus-Smolyan reported. Mostly Bulgarians visit the resort but tourists also come from countries like the Netherlands and the UK, Chepelare mayor Georgi Popov said. Chepelare’s tourism information center is working each day and tourists can make use of its services.

Over 100 000 tourists visit the ski resort of Chepelare each year, head of Studenets tourism union Georgi Raichev told radio Focus-Smolyan. Choudnite Mostove rock phenomenon is among the sites that tourists prefer the most in the region. Chepelare ’s caving museum sees 8000 tourist visits each year. The area near the town offers excellent mountain walk conditions. Speleologists have discovered 65 caves in the vicinities of Chepelare but most of them have not been modified yet to welcome tourists.

Despite the ideal conditions for skiing in Bulgarian winter resorts, the number of foreign tourists is going down. The number of foreign holiday-makers has decreased by 15,000 compared to the same period of 2008, sources from Plovdiv Airport informed. Last year some 60,000 tourists used the service of the airport. The tourists show bigger interest in Bansko winter resort where their number now is 15,000 people.
