108 police officers will be sent to winter resorts in Bulgaria, Commissar Tomi Iliev from General Directorate Security Police said in an interview for FOCUS News Agency. A total of 60 policemen from the regional directorates of Plovdiv, Pernik and Stara Zagora will be sent to Bansko from December 1st till March 31st.

At the order of the mayors of the towns of Smolyan and Chepelare, Dora Yankova and Georgi Popov, the construction works at the Pamporovo mountain resort, as well as at the neighboring resorts, will be stopped, FOCUS Radio – Smolian reports. The ban will be active by March 31, 2009. The measure is taken in order to provide normal conditions for the functioning of the sports installations and hotel base in the upcoming active winter tourist season.

The number of foreign tourists who visited the Bulgarian winter resorts in January and February of 2008 has gone up 23,4% compared to the same months of 2007.
