A Chepelare initiative committee won European funding for rural region development, radio Focus Smolyan reported. The project will affect the municipalities of Banite , Luki and Chepelare . The European agriculture fund provides financial resources for such projects executed from 2007 and 2013. Overall funding for the Chepelare project totals 186 251 leva. An earthquake measuring 3 on the Richter scale was registered at 5:26 a.m. on Friday 170 km southeast of Sofia. The earthquake was felt in three southern Bulgarian municipalities in the district of Smolyan - Banite, Madan and Nedelino, the official on duty in the District Civil Protection Directorate - Smolyan announced. No damages and injured people have been reported so far. The situation is normal, the official assured.

16-year-old schoolboy broke his teacher’s nose, District Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in the Bulgarian town of Smolyan informed. On January 15, at about 11.20 p.m., police in the town of Madan received a signal issued by the principal of "Hristo Botev" Secondary School in the village of Banite, reporting that a 16-year-old boy from the Bulgarian town of Nedelino hit his teacher and broke his nose. The accident took place at a local student’s campus.
Police investigates the case.
