A new installation for production of fuels will be opened on February 19 by Insa Oil LTD ( town of Rakovski ). The facility is a type of desulfurizer and applies the most modern technology for production of fuels with minimal sulfur content. The local government of Bulgarian second largest city of Plovdiv will cut the ribbon on Thursday for a waste treatment facility near Shishmantsi , said mayor Slavcho Atanasov. The project saw a significant delay which has inflated its costs. Construction started in 2003 and was scheduled for completion in 2005. A technical fault in a gas cylinder caused an explosion on Wednesday evening in a home in the village of Belozem, municipality of Rakovski, injuring five people, including a five-year-old boy, Georgi Kunev with the Fire department in the city of Plovdiv told. Orinoco-D, a Bulgarian furniture maker based in the town of Rakovski, said it is launching a project for a chain of hypermarkets for office and home furnishings under the brand Interra. The first outlet will open in September in the Plovdiv area, said Orinoco-D manager Georgi Gidishki. German retailer Kaufland said it will invest over 50 mln euro to expand its storage facility in the village of Stryama , Southern Bulgaria. ABB, the global engineering company, said it will start the construction of a $20 mln plant for low-voltage products in the Bulgarian city of Rakovski. The plant, the group`s third in Bulgaria, should be operational in `09. The plant site will have an area of 2.0 ha. The project will create around 500 jobs. ABB has production operations in local towns Petrich and Sevlievo.

400 textile workers from the Greek-owned garment factory Intex 99 in the town of Rakovski (near Plovdiv ) have gone on strike for higher salaries and better work conditions.
