| On May 7, Bulgaria`s Parliament Speaker Georgi Pirinski inaugurated a memorial bas-relief of Bulgaria`s great national hero, unsurpassed poet and revolutionary, Hristo Botev, in Paris. The inauguration of the plaque set the beginning of a series of events that marked Botev`s 160th birthday. On the eve of June 2, the day of the heroes that perished for the freedom of Bulgaria, the first issue of The Sunday Standart will surprise its readers with a unique present - a replica of the personal writing pad of Hristo Botev. Interestingly enough, the relic, which is kept in the security vault of the Bulgarian National Bank, is less known to the Bulgarian public than the writing pad of Botev`s comrade, Vassil Levski. |

| By the end of June First Investment Bank (FIB) will open 8 new branches throughout Bulgaria, announced treasury officials. FIB will go for Yambol, Sozopol, Novi Pazar, and Rousse. In Sofia there will be four new branches – at Hristo Botev Blvd., Patriarh Evtimiy Blvd., Shipchenski Prohod Blvd., and in the Ilientzi neighborhood. | In `07, Bulgaria exported 2,500 kg of rose oil with output this year seen around the 3,000 kg mark. Local purchasing prices for rose petals have increased to 1.90-2.00 levs/kg from 1.80 levs on average last year. The rise is attributed to the shortage of field workers. An influx of investment has motivated farmers in the Kazanlak and Karlovo areas to switch to rose petal production and the area of rose gardens in the two regions has increased by 2,500 ha over the past 5 years. |
