Bulgarian municipalities have intensified their interest in the utilisation of mineral springs, which the Bulgarian state grants them under gratuitous concession. The Ministry of Environment and Water published a list of nearly 70 mineral springs, which can be managed by the Bulgarian municipalities for a period of 25 years. Hisar won an award for greenest Bulgarian municipality of the year. It received the award for best green space system. The Hisar project included park renovation and the creation of town gardens. Additional awards were handed to Nova Zagora , Pravets and Nessebar . Green municipality awards are targeting park renovations in Bulgaria. Competition founder Deian Kiriazov said that the applicants for the award are increasing each year. Over 60 municipalities applied for participation this year.
