The diesel price hike has lead to drastic price increase of donkeys, according to farmers from the village of Boshulya, near the city of Pazardzhik. Local farmer Angel Milkin states that the price of a good donkey had reached BGN 1000 while until recently they used to sell for BGN 500 or less with sellers often asking more for them than for an used automobile. Workhorses can still be purchased for BGN 300, but the donkeys are in much higher demand because of their better temper, lower appetite and better work capacity.
The former mayor of Bulgaria`s town of Pazadzhik Ivan Evstatiev shot himself at the heart on Sunday. The tragedy took place in the house of the victim`s father-in-law in Semchinovo village. Evstatiev has been rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is now undergoing a surgery. His life is still in danger, doctors said. The attempted suicide was committed with a legally possessed pistol, police authorities reported. Investigation on the case continues.
A woman died on spot after being run over by a train in Bulgaria`s second largest city of Plovdiv on Wednesday morning. Transport Police officers, who are now investigating the case, refused to reveal more details about the victims identity an the reasons for the tragedy. The woman was hit by machine, which was moving back to the engine-shed at the end of the working day. The train, traveling from the town of Septemvri to Dobrinishte marked delay in its schedule due to the accident but the rest of the machines, moving in the same line will compensate for that, State Railways officials said.
Sofia-based company Eltrade OOD has won the sale competition for the municipality-owned mineral baths in the village of Varvara, Southern Bulgaria, with a bid of 520,000 levs. The buyer will revamp the decrepit baths into a contemporary spa and balneology complex. The cost of the first phase of the renovations will be 10 mln levs, said Eltrade manager Nikolai Prodanov. The first section of the spa complex should welcome its first guests within 2 years. A 150-bed hotel and several villas will be added to the 1.2 ha development.
