Bulgaria`s southern municipality of Rakitovo was slapped a BGN 83,000 fine for signing an illegal public procurement contract, the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC) said. The local government assigned a contract to Proinvest Story to rehabilitate public green space even though the company did not meet the turnover requirement for previous years laid down in the law, FSC said in a statement. A medieval church and a fortress were saved from treasure hunter assaults in the region of Rakitovo , radio Focus- Pazardzhik reported. Treasure hunters failed inflicting serious damage since their activities were stopped at an early stage. Representatives of the national archaeology institute are still to date the two landmarks. According to them, the two date back to the late antiquity or the early Middle Ages. Gradot region, where the two landmarks were discovered, will be guarded from now on.

The Pazardjik municipal council has given the go-ahead to an EU-funded 12.6 mln euro project for a solid household waste disposal site. It will be located in the village of Aleko Konstantinovo and will service the municipalities of Pazardjik, Peshtera, Belovo, Bratsigovo, Septemvri, Lesichevo, Rakitovo, Batak and Velingrad. The cost of the project also includes 1.864 mln euro for a facility that will extract from the waste recyclable materials.
