The Bulgarian Orthodox Church canonised yesterday the martyrs from Batak and Novo Selo, massacred by the bashi-bazouk troops led by Ahmed Agha after the failed April Uprising of 1876 against the Turkish oppressors. The people slaughtered in Batak will be honoured by the Bulgarian Orthodox Church on May 17 and the day will be called Convocation of the Batak martyrs. The church-charnel house St. Nedelya in Batak (West Rhodope Mountain) is a national historical monument of culture. It was built in 1813 by the local people for only 75 days. The priests never officiated in Greek language, but in Church-Slavonic and the sermons were read in Bulgarian. During the April Uprising in 1876 father Petar and father Neicho were priests here. The Bulgarian town of Batak is working on project targeting the transformation of an old partisan camp into a tourist attraction, radio Focus- Pazardzhik reported. Most of the partisan dug-outs are still preserved and numerous town visitors are showing interest in these. The first stage of the construction of eco village Batak-Prevala will be finalized in the end of May, radio Focus-Pazardzhik reported. The project involves the construction of a spa hotel near Batak dam. This hotel will be situated near the town of Batak and the region of Tsigov Chark. Construction works are to end in the summer of 2009. Batak’s vicinities offer excellent fishing and water sports conditions.

Zavodski stroezhi PS JSC – Pazardzhik participated in the auction for the sale of the Municipal holiday home near Batak Dam. The company proposed a price of BGN 100 above the minimum sale price for the property and won the auction with about BGN1.4 million. Seven-members committee issued a decision to offer the mayor Todor Popov to conclude a contract with Zavodski stroezhi PS JSC for the sale of the property.

Libero, a company owned by Cyprus-registered Legnano Enterprises Ltd and believed to be affiliated with First Investment Bank, has won a public auction for the Tsigov Chark mountain resort, said the Bulgarian sell-off regulator. Libero was the only bidder and will acquire the complex for 2.5 mln levs. The Batak-based Tsigov Chark operates a hotel, swimming pool, tennis grounds and outdoor sports facilities, among other assets.

Properties: Health and Wellness property fund to raise 15 mln levs

Local real estate investment trust Health and Wellness said it is looking to raise 15 mln levs to finance recent property purchases.
The REIT has issued 7 mln euro in bonds and plans to borrow another 1.9 mln levs in bank credits, said company manager Dimitar Vartigov.
The bond matures in 2012 and has an interest coupon of 7.75%.
The 60-month loan is extended by Corporate Bank and is secured with a second mortgage on a Velingrad property .
