The Thracian sanctuary of Tatul will have video cameras that will protect the site from treasure hunting attempts, econ.bg reported. Such equipment has been installed in only three Bulgarian archaeological sites. Video monitoring is part of a project for the presentation and preservation of Tatoul worth 600 000 leva. Cameras will also monitor the activities of tourists, who sometimes damage the site while exploring it. Tapes will be preserved for a period of six months.

The Bulgarian village of Tatul , located in Momchilgrad Municipality , received 300 000 euro from the PHARE programme for the restoration of a Thracian rock sanctuary. Tatul deputy mayor Sevdalin Ognyanov said that the project dates back eight years and was finally nearing completion. Work on the project named Tatul : Orpheus Sanctuary will start in May, 2007, Bulgarian news agency BTA reported. Tourists will have the opportunity to use the services of trained tourist guides at the site.
