The village of Matochina is located some 10 km east of the village of Sladun and about 40 km east-northeast of the town of Svilengrad , on the right shore of the Tundja river. It is situated in direct proximity to the boundary between Bulgaria and Turkey. Only the citadel (internal fortress) has been preserved until today. The cause of the fire that has been raging for the last three days near the Svilengrad villages of Studena , Ravna Gora and Matochina has been defined as carelessness and not arson by the Police investigators. The investigation has further revealed that the fire has been caused by a local resident. The fire has severe consequences and led to the extinction of 3,000 dekares of forests, 1,5000 dekares of almond and walnut trees and nearly 5,000 dekares of grass and bushes.
