The captain of Bulgaria’s national volleyball team Plamen Konstantinov has not been included in the 16-man squad who will continue the preparation of the team for the mid-August world qualifications due to take place in the Bulgarian seaside city of Varna.

Having found out that coach Silvano Prandi had not included him in the squad, Kostantinov announced the end of his carrier in the national team after 17 years of defending the Bulgarian flag.

"On Wednesday afternoon I was told that I has not been included in the squad. Yes, I was surprised! I did not have any pretensions to be in the squad if I am not healthy, but our plan was to see what my condition is at least by the time of the qualifications. The decision took me by surprise," said Konstantinov and added:

"For me this means an end with the national team. Not only for the European championship, but as a whole because the end is one," he told Bulgarian Darik Radio.
