41 villages have officially been erased from the geographic map of Bulgaria in the last 8 years. The data of the National statistic institute shows that 130 villages have not a single resident. Nearly 1300 are those with population under 100 people.

The number of the desolate settlements in the country is growing and now even the favourable for development flat regions are affected. Dead or dying villages in Bulgaria with less than 10 remaining residents the sad reality, which is explained with the growing urbanisation as whole in the modern world.

In order to cope with the problem of the natural depopulation of the mountain regions such as the Alps, the affected European states create an organization, through which to prepare projects for attracting money from the European funds for regional development.

In Bulgaria, unfortunately, such specific measures are still lacking. There is also no decision about the insufficient infrastructure in the capital despite the avalanche growing of the incoming population.
