Who needs a visa to enter into Bulgaria?

Politics: Thursday, 2009-02-12 15:19
Article by: VisitToBulgaria.com :: Visas

Citizens from an EU member state or the UK, Canada, USA and Israel do not need a visa to enter Bulgaria. Visitors from EU countries may stay in the country for up to 90 days in a 6-month period, counting from date of their 1st entry. For citizens of the US, Canada, the UK and Israel this period is up to 30 days within a six-month period, counting from the 1st entry. It doesn’t matter whether the visitors left and re-enters again in Bulgaria within that period - the total number of days is important.

Bulgaria has liberalized its visa policy as a gesture of reciprocity and to conform to international standards. In addition, the citizens of Cuba, Croatia, the Republic of Korea, Macedonia, Serbia, Tunisia, Turkey, Japan, Cyprus, Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland may enter the country without a visa for a limited number of day (usually 30)  with a normal valid passport.

Persons from other countries, different than above, should obtain an entry visa in advance from the Bulgarian Embassy or Consulate in their country. For this they will need to provide a letter(standard form) of invitation provided from a Bulgarian host  (municipality, business partner) or a letter from their company or institution if they are traveling on business. Incomplete forms, absence of photographs or inadequate payment usually result in the return of the application to the applicant without further action.

Transit visas allow a stay in Bulgaria of 24 hours or less. Airline tickets and evidence of right of entry into the next country of travel will be required but possession of airline tickets does not guarantee the granting of an entry visa.

Note: this information could be changed - please if you are not sure do you need a visa for Bulgaria - just contact Bulgarian Embassy or Consulate in your country for more info
