Milk producers block border checkpoints at Vidin, Oryahovo and Ruse

Milk producers said they will block checkpoints on Bulgaria’s northern border – Ferryboat Vidin, Ferryboat Oryahovo and Ruse Danube Bridge – to voice their protest and discontent over the import of raw materials for the milk industry from other EU countries and third countries. The blockade is due on February 4 2009, the National Association of Milk Producers in Bulgaria says in a letter sent to Focus News Agency.

Closing Oryahovo Ferryboat complex even for a day will result in about EUR 40 000 loses, executive director of the complex Dobri Radev said in an interview. Radev pointed out that traffic through the checkpoint is very intensive saying that about 200 000 motor vehicles cross it in both directions every year.

"The company would suffer considerable financial and economic losses. Many people work in that company that have also families, children etc. On the top of all these people have nothing in common with that situation, unfortunately nothing depends on us for as well for improving the conditions of the so-called milk procures", Radev said.
