Bulgarian experts are explicit and unanimous in their opinion that the nuclear units in Kozloduy are twice safer than the damaged ones in Japan. Firstly, because they are quite newer and have been provided with better security and protection systems. Secondly, the Bulgarian NPP has no chance of undergoing the hell that has struck Japan for the last few days, at least because Kozloduy is situated thousands of kilometres away from the shores of the largest ocean on Earth.

The European Commission made a proposal that Bulgaria be compensated by additional 300 million euro for the pre-term decommissioning of units III and IV of Kozloduy NPP. Till the end of 2008 the EC allotted 550 million euro compensation for putting out of action the two nuclear reactors. The additional funding would be for the period 2010-2013, if the European Council and the European Parliament approve it.
