A businessman, head of one of the biggest companies in the Bulgarian energy sector, has been found dead at a residential building in the capital Sofia. Borislav Georgiev, 41, was executive director of Atomenergoremont, the company that maintained the reactors of the atomic power station in Kozloduy. Georgiev has been shot dead at block 102 in the Lyulin district on his way home. Police received an alert at 6.30 pm after neighbors came across the body, lying motionless between the elevator and the entry of the block. |

| The dead bodies of a man and a woman have been found Tuesday on the bank of Danube River near Bulgaria`s town of Kozloduy. The two victims had fire wounds in their heads as the woman was shot also in her body. The man was lying near a car, proved to have been his own one. A sporting piece was discovered on the spot as well as a death letter, written and signed by the woman. An inquest on the spot showed the man first killed the woman and then committed a suicide. The most probable reason for the double murder is an emotional relationship the two victims kept. The case is still under investigation. |

| On January 21 a national campaign to support the restart of units 3 and 4 of the Kozloduy nuclear power plant NPP started. Politicians, experts and journalists supported the idea that the restart of the two units could be benificial for Bulgaria and the region, Focus news agency said. Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev said there was the possibility for Bulgaria to ask the European Commission EC to be allowed to restart of the two units if a situation of crisis occurred, but only as a temporary measure. Since there was no electric power shortage in Bulgaria, however, this option was out of the question at the moment, he said. |

The plant produced more than 14.643 billion kWh of energy in 2007, while the scheduled amount of energy to be produced was nearly 13.775 billion kWh. Kozloduy reached its production target for 2007 as early as on December 14, Focus news agency said. |

By the end of 2007, it was expected to reach 14.642 billion KWh, head of production at Kozloduy NPP, Alexander Nikolov said.The 2007 production was about 2 billion KWh more than that of 2006, mostly due to the shortened repair work timeframes and a modernisation programme, Nikolov said. |
