The US oil company Direct Petroleum Exploration Inc. (DPE) have discovered a gas deposit under the Bulgarian town of Varshets, the Russian Prime-Tass agency broke the news. Tests have shown the presence of promising quantities of gas and natural gas condensate. Apart from Bulgaria, DPE have subsidiaries in Morocco and Russia. More than a year ago they started drilling for gas near the Pleven District village of Deventsi after discovering a large deposit.

The car automobile traffic along the road II-81 Petrohan – Berkovitsa is redirected through another section due to repair works, the district road infrastructure department in the town of Montana told. The rehabilitation of the water supply grid near the village of Barzia, Montana district, is the reason for the traffic to be redirected through roads IV-81204 and III-812 Berkovitsa-Varshets – from the road fork leading to the Yagodovo village, near the Chapraza area. Signals and road signs have been put in the section. The changes would be in force till June 7th when the repair works are due to finish.

Regulated plots in the balneological resort Vurshets have seen an almost twofold annual price increase. They were offered at 21 euro a sq m at the beginning of 2007 and currently fetch as much as 40 a sq m.
