Devnya -based Solvay Sodi JSC plans to invest BGN 26 million next year in the modernization of its production, announced the company CEO Eric Vander Vorst after a meeting with the governor of Varna Dancho Simeonov. A new distiller will be launched at the Deven thermal power station, a unit of Belgian-owned Solvay Sodi, the company announced. The new installation is part of a BGN 150 M project, which aims to increase the production capacity of the soda ash maker. The distiller will help the plant cut ammonia emissions to levels completely compatible with EU rules, the company said. The two Devnya -based chemical companies Agropolychim JSC and Solvay Sodi JSC are disputing over the storage of waste water and eco-investments. Bulgaria’s Devnya -based chemical fertilisers maker Agropolychim will launch a new production line for evaporation of concentrated phosphoric acid as part of a planned production upgrade, said executive director Hristo Petrov. The project will cost upwards of EUR 10 million and another EUR 15 million will be ploughed into a new depot to streamline phosphorus production. Archaeologists to work again on a preserve in Bulgaria`s Devnia after a 15-year stop, actualno.com reported. An ancient building, neighboring the mosaics building of Devnya will be explored. The building featuring the mosaics has been turned into a unique for Bulgaria mosaics museum. Archaeological research will be carried out in two phases in the beginning and the end of the archaeological season. Excavations will be carried out in cooperation with the Varna regional history museum.

Devnya-based Polimeri JSC chemical plant reported 3.15% growth of total income for 2008. Turnover was BGN 47.7 million against BGN 46.2 million in 2007. Sales hold the highest share of the income, 97.8%, and last year they rose by 2.7% year on year to BGN 46.6 million. Despite the rise, profit of the company dropped by 54.7% to BGN 452,000. Total expenses grew to over BGN 47 million, or up by 4% on an annual basis.[1] [2] [3]
